My brother's wife has been trying to start this for years (she loves puppies but doesn't want the long term commitment). She (and I) are very weary of the creepy guy factor, however. Women in the park will be jaded forever...

Hce, people rent animals all the time, especially horses. There are many places that rent dogs. You can effectively "rent" people too, but not usually babies. Whenever you hire someone for an hourly wage, you are in effect renting them.
