Engagement Rings for Men | |||||||||||||||||
Women wear rings when they get engaged and this creates a lot of business for jewelers. Why not create the concept of engagement rings for men? I bet engaged guys get hit on all the time b/c people don't know they're engaged...

Yeah, and engaged guys hate getting hit on...

Because it would create even more expensive business for jewellers?
Although various traditions of betrothal tokens can be traced back for centuries, the practice of middle-class men giving a diamond ring to their fiancées was an invention of the De Beers diamond cartel. And in 1926, the Jewelery Industry Promotion Board started a campaign to expand the new "tradition" to men too; it failed.
(By the way, the practice of husbands receiving wedding rings as well as the bride is also fairly recent. As recently as 1944, Roman Catholic priests were asking whether the new "custom" was even permitted in a church wedding.)
