As a visitor to the Halfbaked site I am continuously delighted by the capability to return to and edit my submissions after they have been accepted. I am unfortunately subject to making typos and am disgusted with my inability to correct them at this site even though I try to be careful to read them before my final OK.

I agree. However the problem would be that if you change your post after someone critiques it, it could make it hard for later readers to understand what the critic was talking about.

If a submitter responds to criticism there is bound to be an improvement in the quality of thinking, whatever the minor confusion.

Invision's forum software allows a grace period, set by the site administrator, during which the poster can go back and make edits. It also posts a small-type timestamped notice documenting such edits. A two-hour grace period would seem to me not to have any downside in causing reader confusion.
