Keys order on key board | |||||||||||||||||
Why are the keys of a key board unorderly? Why can't we put them in their natural order? like A, B, C, D and so on. Any scientific reason behind this? I had the same problem and wondered too but never figured out the reason behind this mathematics. It still is a puzzle. I think, it will make much easier for beginners, who take half an hour to find a letter, feel embarrased, and shun this wonderfull tool.

The standard qwirty keyboard was designed to minimize jams on early typewriters. If you want a more efficient keyboard, you can set up your computer to use the Dvorak simplified keyboard. That's actually what I use. For more info, check out this. Dvorak
I just noticed that I misspelled QWERTY above. That's because I typed it on my Dvorak keyboard. I actually forgot how QWERTY was spelled. I haven't been using Dvorak very long and I'm still slow as molasses on it, but then I couldn't type fast before either. It is certainly efficient. I particularly like the fact that the vowels are all in a row under my left fingers.
To answer your original question, an ABCD keyboard would be very fast to learn, but very inefficient to type with. Even less efficient than the QWERTY.

I have seen the site.
But I really wonder,
isn't it all a matter of training, practice and getting used to it?
Is there any nature-made mental-pattern or fingure- movement pattern attached to it?
Has any one seriously experimented on it in the recent past? ( Specially on children)
How does it matter if you type a little slower than shunning this machine in the first place? Very many of users write using only one finger.
Why can't we make it much simpler for them, segregating all the keys as per their distinct categories? Like numbers, symbols, system keys etc.( eliminating all the F keys) and making seperate and distinct blocks of such keys.So that when they have to find a key they only look in the relevant block and not get lost in the miss-mass of the presently designed key boards.
Read the site. Check out the links. I'm not going to rehash all the info available there.
The standard qwerty keyboard has not been put randomly together because of a a cool sounding name. qwerty.. it does sound cool though. The keyboard is put together in such a manner that the letters used the most in regular english are most easily accessable. Studies were performed by "TheM", who, i can not say as I am too tired to research it as of now, but there have been many studies done.
Mclf90, did you read my post above? Did you check out the web site? Here's another one The Dvorak Keyboard and You There are many others.
