Cell phone adjust ringer volum | |||||||||||||||||
This would be a simple software mod... have the cell phone sample the ambient noise level (with the built in mic) for 1 second prior to ringing. That way, if you're in a meeting, and the dB level is, say <40dB, it would automatically vibrate. At 60dB it would beep once, at 85, full blast. Of course, you could turn the feature off, or set it for certain hours (i.e. go full bore volume if it rings at 5AM to 8AM in case you're expecting a wake up call). The combination and ring profiles are limitless... It would avoid the embarrassing ring during church service - or having to explain to the wife why you didn't hear her call with the radio up too loud in the car.

This sounds good. (No pun intended) I don't know if the microphone will be able to hear ambient sound well enough if it's in a pocket, purse or carrying case.
You could use the same system to adjust the volume of the speaker when you're using the phone. So if there's a lot of background noise, it will automatically turn up the volume.
