It seems to me that most members of the public understand the need to do something major before our planet and environment totally fall apart from global warming and other pollution. Unfortunately most of the pollution seems to be caused by companies, such as electrical companies, oil companies, etc. Some pollution is inevitable but these companies should be forced to switch to environmentally friendly technologies. Some simply don't care as long as profits are high.
At first glance it would seem that we don't have any control over what these companies do, but their major weakness is public opinion. After all, if a business gets really bad publicity their stock will likely fall, people will switch to their competitors, etc.
What we need is a public community like this one where information about environmental issues all companies can be contributed, reviewed, discussed, rated, and available to everyone. The truth is only found when all perspectives are contributed. When we can easily see which business (of any specific type) is the most environmentally friendly, it allows the general public to support them, and avoid buying from the polluters.
If for some reason the company still doesn't change and continues to be a risk to our planet then everyone who agrees could electronically protest. Some electronic protests involve sending lots of emails, but a forceful method (used after sending a single list of environmental demands) is a small piece of software that talks to the company's web site from each protesters computer simultaneously, effectively overloading it and crashing it.
I wouldn't recommend crashing a web site based on the decision of any single person or even a small group. This method only works when large numbers of people run the application (usually hundreds or thousands), otherwise the server won't overload. This reliance on public opinion can ensure that it's never misused and only those who deserve it receive mass protests.I think the "Electronic Disturbance Theatre" were one of the first to use this technique to support human rights protests, but it would be good if it was expanded or duplicated to help other causes.

There are lots of people and organizations attempting to make reasonable sense of our use of the potentials of the planet but not much is being done because the power compnies have corrupted much of the people in government who have control. At the moment in Texas a large number of coal powered power plants are planned and the public seems helpless to force the companies to make the plants environmentally friendly. When the price of gasoline rises sufficiently perhaps the public will use personal transportation in a better way. You seem to have the right instincts but no new ideas for putting them into force.

The National Security Agency (NSA) is the most important and most influential organization in the United States; and by necessity, the most covert.

I've been monitoring the recent attack upon the National Security Agency. The President, who represents billionaire special interests, like Bechtel and the Oil Companies, has taken control of the NSA to collect, process, and manipulate data and the citizens of the United States. I know, old news right!

We can now do something about it. Now being considered by Congress is an Oversight Committee that would monitor the NSA. Unfortunately, these are appointed positions and they represent Special Interests, providing direct access for covert Special Interest activities. But if we were to change the oversight of the NSA to State elected representatives with formal training in ethical evaluation, then we would have intelligent representation overseeing our freedoms and rights !!!!!!

Please go to the following link, take the time to read the proposal, and copy and paste it to your State Representatives. Links are provided.

Establish Representative Ethical Oversight of the NSA

I know it's a significant extra effort in your busy day, but this is extraordinarily important for our future, your children's future, and their children as well.

History says that peoples/nations generally refuse to deal with a problem until it becomes a choice between life and death. The pain level is not high enough presently, so GW will be handed down to future generations, along with a few other problems.

In our society, a president who says "don't worry, have faith, feel good, etc", receives high marks from many (Ex: Reagan). This is because so many of us are looking for an excuse to just "kick the problem down the road."
