Idea/Solution Communities | |||||||||||||||||
The community is anyone concerned about a particular topic, question, issue, or problem. Its membership is free of normal restrictions that are found in the formal educational structure. Communities are open to teachers, administrators,support staff,and concerned citizens regardless of the school site, grade level, or experience. In other words, a community is made up of anyone who chooses to participate and has an interest in the subject. They are free of the formal restrictions (grade level, school site, experience, and job title) that normally preclude us from working and sharing with each other. Technology will allow them to cross the boundaries of location and overcome the difficulties of time. The communities operate around "Idea Workspaces." These are wiki's that are establish for communities to work and share online. Communities can post their work, allow others to add to it and edit it, plus post documents, video clips, pod-casts, and pictures. Best of all, it's free. * A community where we join and share out of a common interest, common love, common goal, or common purpose. * A community where we can collaborate to create new ideas on issues and problems that we face in our classrooms, at our school sites, and in our district. * A community that exists outside of the formal organizational structure and is therefore free of the constraints of job descriptions, job title, grade level, position, geographic location, years of experience, and formal training. * A community that is free to roam intellectually and cross organizational barriers to collaborate and capitalize on thoughts, ideas, information, experiences, expertise, and wisdom from any person inside or outside the organization. * A community that utilizes the power of technology to share and collaborate anytime, anywhere, and with anyone, free of meetings, deadlines, cost, and barriers.
