Version Grabbing | |||||||||||||||||
I do not know whether something similar is in place or not!! Whenever we (all the software junkies) read the online tutorials on some websites, we see something like ".....and the current version of XYZ software is 1.2(or something else)......" and along with this kinda text some websites may even provide a link to the Parent Company's website which manufactures/produces the software the tutorial is talking about. Most of the cases the version of the software mentioned in the tutorial would be age old. So, in order to give precise info to user about the latest version, if we have a reusable software component which is pluggable into any website which "grabs" or "reads" the latest version number from the Parent Website and displays it on the tutorial, that would be of great help to the reader/aspirant. Of course, in order to achieve this the Parent Company should "place" the value of latest version at some place on the web where all the child sites "grabs" the data from.

I agree but who do you think should do it?
I think the parent company should look into it. In one way, that would help the company too to track the number of such 'requests' for its software.
