Melodies are distinguished by patterns of notes. Many times I get a melody in my head and I would like to know the source. I don’t know if this is technically or legally possible but it would be interesting if I could sing or hum or whistle a melody into a microphone and send it to a source like Google so that that particular melody or similar melodies could be identified out of a data base to let me locate the original source. It would also prove valuable in discovering how different composers had used similar melodies in other related works.

Not sure how the revenue would work, but there are lots of free things that I never thought I'd see. WikiMelody?
