Speed Pass For Garages | |||||||||||||||||
Garages can often have in big cities Multiple lanes and even if it has one they are often during busy times really slow. Why not have a transponder that can be used for the cities garages or even team up with the expass company and make it so that you have the billing go to the user automatically every month. The extra cost to the garage would be made up by they're ability in busy times to clear up some spaces and bring in more money faster and with multiple lanes you could dedicte one for easy pass people. Even if you dont dedicated one lane to eaazy pass people the line still would move faster then before at i am assuming minimal cost. even for the less busy garages the conveience during bad weather to not open the window and freeze and also be able to get along faster benefitts the customer. Oh did I mention if you have two or more lanes to exit then you can get rid of a worker full or part time saving lots of money. Any thoughts?

With the technology in place today, this seems like a very reasonable plan. The fact that it speeds things up makes it attractive to both the user and the operator, which should hasten its implementation. Bravo!
Holy crap. This is, no joke, the first feasible and economically practical idea I have read on this website. I stand in awe.
I'm going to try and be my own devils advocate here. So how does a person like me who knows nothing about this kind of technology even get started and how would you structure a business like this to make a profit? Would you have to team up first with the makes of ezpass? How would you infiltrate the garages that exist and get them to pay for hardware that I assume would need to be added to thier thing that blocks people from going forward they can say well we already have this one lane and why would we use this if most people arent tech savy and dont want to learn or dont want to pay a % in addition to the current fee they pay for parking since say they use it just a few times a week. I assume that most people on weekends that are party people in the city say of boston pay a premuim for parking at night but don't feel like starting in with a device since its not a daily thing to be used like one that is used for a toll both on a highway. Any thoughts or suggestions?
pauljim, if you really want to get into this business, these are the people my company works with to design turnpike pass systems.

I haven't seen them used in parking, but I almost can't believe no-one's thought of this. There are even gas stations trying credit-billing using RFID to keep track of fillups.
