SMS services on mobile phones can be used to quickly get bank account information (i.e. before making a purchase, to see if a check cleared). After giving the bank an authorized mobile phone number, text message queries can be sent from the phone to the bank. The bank then replies with the balance of your checking account (or any other accounts you wish to check). Posted transactions are also given, just in case a purchase you wish to make now accidentally depletes your funds and results in an overdraft.
