Instead of a physical remote control, why dont they make special/grade pencil that writes on air (WOA) indicating the control over remote infra-red level.
for example: the command for VOLUME INCREASE would be V+, VOLUME DECREASE would be V-, CHANNEL UP would be C+, CHANNEL DOWN would be C-, and you could write the channel name or channel number in air using the pencil and then it glows in radium release (MMC-R) air from the pencil then disappears treating radium collection device (RCD) is part of the TV infrared sensor, thereby establishing a radium based network (RBN) so all electrical and electronic devices are addressable in a manner similar to IP addressing system currently in use, so your pencil would glow and beep when all you would carry to your office would be a pencil and it would indicate when your garage door is opening, whether your daughter is in or out, whether the house door is being opened by somebody other than your spouse, son / daughter etc? (superceding biometric identification, iris identification, voice code identification, identification of smell level ISL)

Sensing a stylus moving in open air is rather easy, but expensive, for the task.
Currently customers and manufacturers get and like the remotes currently in use, as they are cheap to manufacture, and rather simple, mostly.
