High End Cell-phone Revolving | |||||||||||||||||
Each year mobile phones become more sophisticated. For a segment of the population, they are as much as status symbols or accessories as they are communications devices. Why not have subscription leases available for high end mobile phones. For say, $20-30 a month, a person could “check” out any model of phone they wish. When they tire of it, they could check out another. Phones would be re-furbished and sent out to another member. If a person loves a phone, they could have the option to purchase it. This type of model seems to currently be quite successful with high end women’s purses. Why not?

Could work. Despite all their sophistication, cell phones aren't really made to last. Everyone wants their phones to be lightweight as well as functional, which results in high fragility. Applying this payment model further acknowledges the limited lifetime of today's cell phones.
Forget leases. Just sell the phones at their retail value, unlocked to use on any provider (format allowing). Those that can buy phones as stsus symbols can afford them.
Most cell phone companies will allow you to try a phone for 30 days and return it no questions asked... so you can already do this for free. Many people never take advantage of this though.
