Grocery Service | |||||||||||||||||
I believe many people think it is a hassle going grocery shopping. Long lines at the deli and checkout lines, people in your way in the aisles not willing to move so you can get by and get your item. What if there was a grocery takeout service available? A person can go online order their groceries, pay for it online and schedule an exact time to stop by the grocery store to pick up their groceries - already bagged and ready to go. A person would be at the grocery store and earn a small commission on the total purchase price to perform the actual shopping. I know their are delivery services out there that would go grocery shopping and bring them to your home for a fee but then you would have to make sure a person is home ready for the delivery. There would also be the issue of frozen goods being in a vehicle too long and groceries ruined due to being transported. I believe people don't mind going to pick up groceries if they know they will be bagged and ready to be picked up at a specific time. It is the actual shopping that is the hassle. Would you pay for example an extra $10.00 on a $100.00 purchase for this convenience? DAN T

Although this has some benefits for people in a hurry there are problems. When I shop I find some items are not there and I discover suitable substitutes in the inspection of the shelves. Also shopping gets me to pick up items I might have forgotten in making up my list. The most annoying wait is at the checkout counter and this could be automated by filling up the shopping cart and putting it on an automatic conveyor to the cash register where the bundled goods could be paid for a bit later without me waiting in line. But all this automation is really not that necessary for the gaining of about 10 minutes of personal time at maximum.
Not a bad idea and the items could be just as easily show in stock or out of stock on line. The frozen goods could be stored together in a bag in a cooler. Also I know the grocery stores like to track items and ordering on line would give them a more easily accessable means of tracking. One negative thought for me is I like to pick the milk by experation date, and other products by hand for personal preferences like weight and appearance.
This is a terrific idea. The Shoprite supermarket chain implemented this very approach about a year ago. You enter their website, place an order, and then drive to the supermarket and pull into the designated pickup spot, a supermarket employees brings groceries to you. What would be even better is if they delivered.
