Cars that can't speed | |||||||||||||||||
Why do cars need to go over 80 mph? Where can anyone really drive that fast legally? I submit that no car should be able to go over 75 mph (the highest speed limit I've seen in the US). That would eliminate high speed chases as well as random accidents and drag racing. Then if you are caught going over 75 mph, the cop can get you not only for speeding, but for tampering with the speed mechanism.

Speed limits, in their present incarnation, are a danger to life and property. You are suggesting we enforce something that increases risk to drivers on the road.
When speed limits are set based on road surveys and scientific analysis, then it might make sense to limit speeding the way you suggest. But as we get deeper into researching vehicular flow, the numbers are suggesting we won't have to.
We don't speed around here. We "exceed expectations". How can that be a bad thing? ;-)
I think this is a great idea.
As YOU get deeper into vehicular flows, you mean. They suggest something to you. Not to me, nor anyone else here. I really don't see any reason to believe in your magical thinking without some real statements that can be supported.
Ha ha ha ha. WHO would think to make a statement like "speed limits are DANGEROUS and increase risk" without proving it or justifying it in any way? How does that make sense to a person? Ridiculous.
Are you suggesting we turn all roads into the Indy 500 and that somehow we'll all be safer for it? Because human beings react BETTER at HIGHER speeds? I'm amazed at your myopia.
I voted for but I think it should be set to 90 or 100.
Although I have to admit I've taken my car to 135 mph once and it wasn't too happy about it.
There are devices on buses that I have heard of that beep real loud everytime the bus goes too fast.
Sounds like Mr. Toastydeath is a member of a German sports car club.
I think the solution is somewhere in the middle of all this.
It is 'not nice' of both road and car designers to put people in a position where they can unintentionally exceed the speedlimit and then spending police budgets on catching them! Given speed limits should be imposed sensibly, I thinkit is a good idea to equip cars with a (variable) speed controller of their own.
However, in some cases of emergency, you may still want to override be automatic system, to even prevent a severe accident from happening.
