Tracking business miles is a real hassle. Why not a voice that comes on asking what the purpose of the trip that you started the engine is for. You say business or personal or commute, or touch a screen to make that selection, then computer in car remembers your choice and records mileage, time, date. When you start the car again, the process repeats itself. When you are ready to extract data, you tell computer what date range you want, and it exports it via a cable link or a wireless broadcast to an Excel format where it can be manipulated as desired. This beats the pen and paper method hands down as I always forget.

Just use a GPS receiver to log where you go. If it is to a buisness establishment, it is buisness. Or judge by time, any travelling in buisness hours is just that.
