What do you think about my patented idea ?Standby consumption of electric appliances (TV, HiFi, etc.) is not indifferent, in particular over longer periods of time. Environment and energy losses issues are also a problem.Why not power the switching on circuitry of the electric appliance from the remote controller via wireless power beaming so that the electric appliances can be switched completely off ?The required energy to switch a TV on is minimal and can be provided by the remote controller directly (via laser or microvawe tecniques), so that the electric appliance does not require to be in a standby power consuming status.

Wirelessly beaming power would lose more energy than gets spent by ordinary standby circuitry, to transmit enough to power the standby circuitry of a device to activate it. Not to mention the added complexity in the remote and device, and bigger batteries which themselves need charged, or replaced, and a monetary and perhaps enviromental cost likely more than utility power.
The most logical thing to do would be to have hard power off switches on appliances, and teach people to use them.
Classicsat, I'm sure the standby power requirements of some appliances is quite low and not of too much concern. But the idea of beaming power to intiate a circuit response in something that is completely powered down. I think a circuit similar to an RFID could perform that function. Though I don't know how much power the transceiver for an RFID uses. I know some have a range out to about 600 feet.
