New Idea for Movie tickets | |||||||||||||||||
Anyone who lives in New York, London, or California or anyone who ever has ridden a subway where a user must insert his or her ticket/pass into the gate, and have the gate open or allowed to be opened knows what I mean. Why not bring the same idea to movie theaters? After buying your movie ticket, instead of having the ticket checker guys (Which are easily defeatable, because sometimes they are not even at their post), why not have subway station style enterances? You insert your ticket into the turnstile or gate, and if the ticket is valid, the machine will open the gate and let you in. In London, these subway station gates are too tall to be jumped by any average person, and jumpers would be in trouble anyway, or New York's "revolving door" style turnstiles. People without a valid ticket would obviously be locked out, and it would be harder for people to sneak into the movies.

It could work. On the other hand, you'd need a physical fence around the gates, and we'd need to keep the fire marshal happy. Management will still want some eyes on the crowd, and I think having the teens (mainly) know there is semi-interested authority figures available may be important. But, especially for larger complexes, I think you could reduce the number of suit-wearing ticket takers by using the machines.
It might not work as sometimes you need to ask which room your movie plays.
And you might have the hands full of popcorn and pop so pushing a door might be difficult :)
It would become even more difficult if you take your kids or for some reason you need to need to leave the theatre for a while (for example to take something from the car)
Dragos: The thing is a magnetic ticket, so if you tell the people at CS you need to re-enter, they will re-authorize your ticket...just like they have the capability to do at subway stations. Emergency egress isn't hard with a couple emergency exits, and if the fire alarm is sounded, the gates open to allow exit.
And usually the room your movie is playing in is printed on the ticket.
