Issue Card | |||||||||||||||||
All candidates (party affiliation does not matter) for public office should be required to fill out an "issue card" where there are only two possible answers: (1) for & (2) against. Then major issues such as (war in iraq, abortion, public health care, etc, etc) are listed. The candidate must list his or her position - no gray areas. That way the public will know what they are voting for. The "issue card" should then be made a matter of public record. Posted on the Internet or something. If an elected official deviates more than a specified number of times from what they listed on their "issue card" - new elections can be held.

There would be a LOT of gray ares, but I like the idea of questionaires. If I recall some of the things of which MattG is not overly fond, I think the war in Iraq is near the top of the list. We did have another round of elections, for what that is worth.
The US House of Representitives has most of the power, and the US gets their shot at them every two years. But still, I would like to see "issue cards". The problem would be choosing who gets to formulate the questions. Maybe the internet could somehow rank the top 50 questions, identical for all candidates. I would not want Dan Rather runnning the show.
i like the idea. I'm sick of seeing cantidates skirt questions that might reveal something about how they might actually feel about something. Yes and no answers are extinct in the political realm. The always wanna tell ya "why" i.e. fill your ears full of bull *(&^ till the next question
