Luggage Free Travel | |||||||||||||||||
Frequent business travelers could enjoy traveling with little to no luggage if their wardrobe were already at the hotel and in the closet. A traveler (with the means) could visit a local Nordstrom (or other expensive retailer) and select a basic wardrobe they would like to have ready at the hotels they frequent. Nordstrom would then pack up and ship a complete set to each of the traveler's hotels. The hotel would then store the wardrobe, for a fee, and have it available for the traveler's next visit. When the traveler books a room it is made ready for him and the wardrobe that has been in storage is freshened and hung up. The traveler changes to fresh clothes as needed, then leaves behind the dirties to be laundered and re-stored for the next visit. The hotel keeps an inventory on-line of what they have ready for the traveler's next visit. If there is an imbalance, the traveller can request surpluses be shipped to other hotels or home. If there is a deficit, the traveler can request it be left as is, or have Nordstrom replenish the wardrobe. The inventory could be left to Nordstrom or the hotel to manage if desired, where there would be standing orders how to handle surplus or deficits. If I had the money to have this service, it would be great. Just hop on the plane and know that your room and clothing are waiting. This could also be done for personal care items like toothbrush, razors, etc.

Title should have been LUGGAGE free travel.
A bit off-topic, but I always hated clothes shopping because you'd grab a bunch of clothes, go to the dressing room, undress, try on the clothes -- they don't fit, or whatever -- get dressed again, go out, grab more clothes, do it it all over...
I thought they could come out with these quick jumpsuits made out of non-woven Tyvek(TM) with snaps or Velcro and you could hop into those if you needed to grab another item. I even thought of a name (if they employed Velcro): Wear and Tear.
Anyway, I now see this was a silly idea as I'd much rather take a minute more to re-tie my shoes than walk around a clothing department dressed like some Ghostbuster trainee.
The garmets might be a bit difficult, but the toiletries are surely a go. It amazes me that no hotel i've ever been to stocks contact lens solution or lens cases... considering that 1 out of 5 people wear them, its sort of a gross oversight. Taking a toothbrush, decent shampoo, nail clippers, scissors and all that sort of stuff would become a thing of the past, so that clothes was ALL one had to take.
On top of that, depending on the country, getting an in-room hotel iron can be like pulling teeth. I tried it in Milan a couple of years back and failed... in helsinki: sillitushroudta (spelled wrong, but means "iron"). The international standards for what one travels with vary too much to achieve consistency unless you worked it out with a single hotel chain. Perhaps a sheraton club member could have their clothes pre-shipped to their destination if the room is booked more than 3 weeks in advance.... the idea is killer, just the hotel chain is the only constant.. nordstrom certainly is not... hilton, radisson, sheraton, holiday inn... maybe... its a good idea... it needs refinement... as otherwise, the primary potential customer (business travellers) will not benefit... and the superwealthy can afford to move a whole bloody closet by slave-express... so what do they need it for... its the business people you want to target... and its a great idea if that can be achieved.
People with the means are already using FedEx to do this. I am sure high class hotels include an unpacking service.
When staying (as a consultant) in a hotel for 3 or 4 days week after week, I simply dropped my dirty clothes off at the hotel dry cleaners on the morning I left, and picked them up when I checked in the next week.
Good hotels would have them waiting for me in my room after check-in.
why don't hotels just have suits for hire. they have uniforms/suits for staff and laundry will look after it. all you do is pay the hire fee when you book in.
black, charcoal and brown for the trendies!!!
