Porn: Win-Win Solution | |||||||||||||||||
If the government should legalize pornography, it should be of ugly, fat women only. This way, pornographers can still have their jobs, and more women can still have their self-esteem. One problem is how to define "ugly." (Doctors can define "fat.")

And what should we do about people who are turned on by ugly fat women?
We can define ugly. Turns out, genetics predisposes the human race to finding the hourglass figure (large breasts, small waist, large hips) attractive. We can run several people through a computer, and the computer can accurately rank them from most attractive to least. It becomes impossible in cases where the group is very close, such as comprised of supermodels, or ugly obese women. The computer will still rank them, but much like Miss Universe pageants, the actual result of human ranking is too difficult to predict.

Pornography is legal. If you were to make pornography illegal, you would have to define pornography. You couldn't take a picture of your wife in the buff. A grandmother could not take a picture of her joyous naked grandchild being chased by her daughter during a diaper changing. Books eluding to any natural consequence of romance would have to be banned.
Rather than ban pornography, start teaching children about the natural tendencies of human emotion and how to deal with those tendencies constructively.
Women in Iran and other countries of the middle east are completely, and uncomfortably covered up in public. Yet, the sight of a womans ankle can evoke more of a response there than a woman clad only in a bikini here in the United States.
If everyone were accustomed to being naked in public, pornographers would be out of business. Or rather, they would pander to a different audience.
Pornographic abuse is the sickness of the reader, not the object on display. A man that is emotionally insecure or has so low a self-esteem as to debase women to bolster their own opinion of themselves, are sick indeed.
For some readers, they view the art of what you consider pornographic. A woman or man displayed in a way that is as beautiful as a morning sunrise.
The problem isn't pornography, various types of pornography are the symptoms. They can be used to identify the people whom are emotionally and cognitively imbalanced. These people should be afforded medical and psychological treatment.
I'm frustrated by narrow-minded people that attack the symptoms of problems instead of the sources of problems. Would you kill a person because of their religion? Same difference. You would seek to provide them help in better understanding the shortcomings of thier beliefs. You would provide them with a healthy diet and general education so that they had the tools to think for themselves. Eventually, they would discover for themselves how they have been manipulated and deceived.
ANY reading material is meant to inspire the mind. There are no truths that can ever be proven beyond circular logic. We exist within a world we perceive that is extraordinarily limited. We can only tend towards understanding, but our limited minds can not truely understand all the interrelationships of even a single word. Proof: Explain to me in detail the full meaning of the word "Love".
Did you know that in many, if not most, cases of alcoholism there is a medical treatment available. And the Alcoholics simply lose the desire to drink alcohol. But we treat the symptom by not serving alcohol on Sunday, limit the hours alcohol can be served, limit the ages for the selling of alcohol, heavily tax alcohol, .... Instead of treating the source of the ADHD problem.
So I strongly oppose any form of censurship of the media. Instead we should identify the people who have related emotional problems and get them the treatment that they need.
To respond to sand, the idea behind this type of pornography is that married men would begin to appreciate their wives more, that fewer women would have eating disorders, that more women would be respected, that even fat, ugly women can find themselves attractive, etc.
Therefore, this new type of pornography would be purchased, thus making this suggestion a WIN-WIN solution for the pornography issue.
I'd have to modify what I wrote. Sexual violence should definitely be out of pornography.
One thing I'm not getting here: Why unattractive people somehow deserve to feel attractive?
toasydeath,
Feeling attractive elevates self-esteem, something which these women are entitled to (though I would not claim that ANY action should be carried out to enhsnce self-worth).
High self-value {gets manifested in} "empathy, contentment, honesty, courage, and grace...[vs.] low self-esteem[:] ... self-absorption, anxiety, dishonesty, fear, and legalism." {SOURCE: Ryan, Dale S. "Self-esteem: An Operational Definition and Ethical Analysis." _Journal_of_Psychology_and_Theology_. vol. 11(4), Winter 1983, pp. 295-302. _PsycINFO_. Abstract. http://search.ebscohost.com.} However, according to some other source, this does not apply in cases of EXTREME self-esteem.
Therefore, increasing self-value is a worthwhile goal (though, again, there are plenty of cases where the method of stimulating this is not a good idea).
Furthermore, I personally believe that one substantial cause of divorce is a lack of attraction to the spouse in question. Therefore, I think that this idea would reduce the divorce rate. Of course, it would also help induce respect toward all women.
It is legal...and I believ they have this...and barf.
The problem with so-called pornography is evident only to those who go looking for it and who have some irrational religion-based axe to grind. I have not seen porno hurt anybody.
If you don't like porno, don't look at it, and mind your own business.
