I enjoy reading Why Not, and have wondered why there are no animated emoticons, smilies, etc., that would permit the responders to appropriately accessorize their response on Why Not.

I can see SAND responding to some concepts with an icon with a scratching of the head and a puzzled expression, lying on the floor laughing, sitting behind a machine gun and shooting the idea down in flames, beating a dead horse, etc.

It would make the reading of the idea and the responses more entertaining...

Aside from my general dislike of the simplistic symbolism of emoticons I suppose the general aversion to my hopefully helpful comments would result in all sorts of emoticons specific to me ranging from mere grimaces to imaginative pornography and scatology. Please be assured that I have no official standing at this site and my comments, favorable or otherwise, are merely the opinions of one visitor. I would hope the ideas presented have sufficient novelty in their content without an accompanying animated cartoon.

=D

:-)

I agree that the existing sitcom generation has difficulty verbalizing their intent or emotions without the aid of a sound bite or a laugh track, but it is time for various internet sites to recognize that there is more to the internet than a rendition of a 70's bulletin board site, which unfortunately I vividly remember.

A veteran of green screen technology, I see no compelling reason to continue the text only vision of the future of communications. A picture can indicate a thousand words, and that is more immediately understandable by the casual reader.

Note that I did not indicate the giant leap of technology to require broadband access! :-)

I mentioned Sand as he or she is the most prolific poster on this site, and I value the comments made.

Smilies, animiated icons, et all, make the site too busy, and dumb down the board.
