As the summer depression sets in from the lack of pro and collage football, not even March madness to entertain me, I think wonderful thoughts of my stool at my favorite bar, and the joy or pain to come next season, I look over to see my very, very bored wife flicking away chips from a dead plate of nachos.
I do not wish to own a bar or restaurant, so I offer this idea to the readers of WhyNot, Why Not a Soap Bar for women?
A Soap Bar would be the opposite of a sports bar. It would have the women gather Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday (or whatever nights) for their favorite shows, such as, Desperate Housewives, and Grey's Anatomy. My wife loves these shows, and I flick the chips off a plate of dead nachos when I think of watching these shows. The bar would be a cozy place of pink cosmos, served up by whatever the male equivalent of a cheerleader is to a sports bar. There would be big screen TVs in HD that play all new episodes, and reruns of Melrose Place and 90210. Thoughts?

Not being a sports fan I am intrigued with the innovative concept of collage football. I assume that the members of each team are glued together to form an impenetrable phalanx to confront each other. The resulting topographic tangles must be fascinating. That herds of men and women gather together to sink into alcoholic stupor while mesmerized by artificial physical and psychological conflicts of no consequence while the country neglects to notice the steady loss of their civil liberties and the multiple unnecessary deaths and injuries in real conflicts around the world is indeed a motivation for summer depression.
That about it for pro sports.
Sand, if you guys were red-blooded Americans, you would appreciate the character-building merit of spectator sports. After all, "winning is everything !" If you don't believe me, ask Barry Bonds or Mark whats-his-name.
