I would like to see all Gym's modify there exercise equipment to capture energy created by people running on the tread mills, riding the stationary bikes, using the eliptical machines, and rowing machines. I work out four times a week and I do an hour on the eliptical machine and I imagine all the enery going to waste. This is simplicity at it's finest and in this day and age our natural resources are being consumed at such a large rate that we need to look at creating energy elsewhere. Solor panels on all homes, windmills, alternative fuels, more energy efficient homes, cars, etc.

It's not a new idea and previous discussions indicate the recoup of energy would not be great - perhaps not great enough to pay for the new equipment.
The very most is that the resistance is used to generate local heat by friction, and some gym eqipment does that anyways.
It probly wouldnt even cover the utilities of the gym itself, but it would be cool anyway. And green "warriors" would flock to the gym in the thousands in their prius cars to do their part. Contact me, I will see if we can get backing for "Greens" Gym...play on Golds gym of course.
Im serious.
great idea but can not be looked at on a small scale.not just the cardio machines, but weight machines could make power like sparker in some lighters. if a gym was designed from the ground up to gather energy from every posible place could be at least 50% self supporting.Great idea
