Parents worry about losing their kids ... especially their small ones ! The GPS technology could be used to locate your kid. A device signaling the position could be placed within the kid clothes. Another device retained by the parent would indicate the positioning on a map. Now I recognize that the tool could not be limited to kids, which may cause some issues...

It might also solve the problems of lost airline luggage.
The problem is an FCC license is required for anything over 300 mW output, that sets the practical reliable range between 100 and 300 feet.
However, this feature is available in cell phones as a service. One cell phone is given or strapped onto the child, and the parent can either use a second cell phone or home computer to monitor their child.
So essentially, this has already been done.
Such a device already exists. The company is www.laipac.com and they have an S-911 Personal Locator. Has 3 buttons: 911, home and pre-programmed I think. Has built-in GPS unit and bi-directional speaker/mic. Hit the 911 button and you can talk to someone and get located. We have some at work and they are very small. The company is out of Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada and have offices in other continents as well.
