Brake light should indicate the deceleration of speed, not the pressure on the brake pedal. Brake light should be connected to speed sensor so that it goes ON sensing the deceleration. Also in case of minor deceleration it need not go ON. When the car is standing still the brake light is unnecessary.

Even if you take into account the wear on brake pads or brakes in general, a pressure sensor will still be an accurate measure of deceleration. Since the sensor can only react when the brakes are being engaged, the sensor would still activate even if brake are sensitive or resistant. And you always need brake lights, that is why they are there.

You do need brake lights while stopped. How are people supposed to know if you are stopped from a distance so they can start braking themselves?

Brake lights could be brighter than they are right now, but they are as best as can be at the time. A lot of newer cars have LED brake lights now that are really bright so my one complaint is solved.
