Tax Energy - Not Income | |||||||||||||||||
AMERICAN ENERGY WASTE is EVERYWHERE ! Energy waste in America is horrendous, sinful, stupid, and FIXABLE !(1) We stupidly over heat and over cool our homes, businesses, offices, schools, churches, etc...(2) 10's of millions of outdoor lights burn during the day.(3) Most Americans do not minimize their driving.(4) Over packaging is the norm. Recycling is a joke. Our landfills are as busy as ever.(5) Road construction in America is the ultimate contradiction and is perpetuated by graft that entail Billions of dollar$. The ONLY way to dramatically reduce America's energy waste and over demand is by using the economics of taxing energy, in lieu of Federal Income Tax. UNTIL the price of gas is $6 to $8 per gallon, hedonistic America will not significantly reduce its over consumption and energy waste. Federal Gas Tax should be $4 to $6 per gallon and 'offset' by making Federal Income Tax begin at $60k. ONLY with a tangible/dollar reward will Americans care to conserve.In the mean time, the USA continues to stupidly 'give away' its economic and political wealth to the Islamic Middle East via OPEC, just so we can continue our energy waste; as if it doesn't matter. Know that the Islamic dominated OPEC cartel is gladly allowing supply and demand market forces to drive energy prices to $6/gallon. It is our 'own dumb hedonistic' fault that the Islamics who want to annihilate us will likely succeed; using our American 'gas money' to buy the weapons needed to do so. China, India, and other 'developing countries' are just beginning to compete for the world's remaining natural resources. Geopolitical unrest is directly related to global competition for energy. If global demand for energy is not dramatically reduced, World war is inevitable. Ford and General Motors are headed for bankruptcy, which will leave 100,000,000 Americans unemployed, ruin our economy, and lead to anarchy. America can no longer continue to 'do business as usual'. Unless Ford and GM soon transition to the lucrative business of building solar and wind 'energy producers' for the world's 6.7 BILLION people reason$, they are doomed to die. The world simply cannot continue to support all the automakers. We are running out of petroleum. Wake up ! Mass transit must reward those who reduce their driving and thereby become FREE, SAFE, CLEAN, and CONVENIENT. ( Only then, will significant numbers of people use it.) America must quickly wake up, get our heads out of our asks, and rapidly implement intelligent sustainable energy conservation, starting with the ONLY workable method; TAXING ENERGY - NOT INCOME! * STOP the Energy WASTE *Reduce * REDUCE * ReduceAmerica is "wasting away" its economic andpolitical wealth to the OPEC and Islamic cartels.TAX ENERGY ~ NOT INCOME

I disagree. If we simply provide abundant clean energy for everyone, then we need not reduce our energy use.

The problem isn't that we use energy, it is that we don't invest in clean energy and stop using dirty energy. Deep down the problem is actually political corruption and oil companies surpressing the production of clean energy and fuel efficient processes.
Example: Industrial boilers use a crude oil like asphalt for producing steam. The thermal efficiency can be increased by over 15% by injecting water to mix with the fuel to create greater heat transfer to the boiler tubes. The oil companies will stop delivering fuel to any company that modifies in any way the content of their product. This forces industry to burn at least 15% more fuel.
Useage is a symptom, the problem is corruption.

The correct concept would be a "Carbon Tax", which would not only apply to fossil based energy, but to products made with petroleum. The tax would not apply to energy or goods derived from "green" sources.
I agree with the basic idea of taxing energy consumption as long as it's offset by reducing some other form of tax (such as income). This is already happening in Canada. British Columbia is the first province to apply a "Carbon Tax" gradually increasing as they decrease the income tax accordingly.
I do believe this will be an effective way to make you think twice if you REALLY need to use your car, overheat or overcool your home, etc.
Still renewable and clean energy should be developed, but until it becomes widespread and affordable, we should stop having only "good intentions" but really doing nothing to improve our energy efficiency.
We already heavily tax energy, of course. But this is a dreadful idea as it's a very regressive tax; the poorer you are, the greater the percentage of your income you spend on tax. There are already people having a hard time buying their home heating oil and gas. Let's not make it worse, okay?
