My husband and I recently moved...what a pain that is! He has this nifty system of moving in blue plastic bins labeled so that we can categorize what is in them and input the information into a database. The move went smoothly, but we found that we needed to store many of those blue bins under the house - categorized, of course, so we could find what we needed - but, unable to determine the environment in which they are stored. For example, does it get incredibly hot or cold in the storage space? Is it damp down there?
So it occurred to me that we could invent a Blue Bin that has a built in wireless sensor network to capture data about the storage conditions. It would be beneficial before, during and after moves. Think if you were shipping your bins from one location to another ... you could know at all times the humidity, velocity, temperature. And, if you decided to keep things in storage, you could monitor conditions to ensure optimized storage conditions. I guess I'd also throw in some sort of bar coding technology so that you could simply tag what you are storing, quickly scan it to automatically go into a database that you could then manage remotely, if needed.
