drygoods floats for floods | |||||||||||||||||
the idea comes from observing recent flooding. What if you knowthe flood is coming in advance, and you can move all your household effects to the second floor, and let the first floor flood. Butthere is no guarantee the flood won't keep rising. So the idea isto provide a series of floating 2x4-meter long barges that can beloaded down with possessions in case of a flood, and otherwisestacked at a municipal yard when not needed, or folded up.. ?A series of unsinkable floating container barges could be a publicblessing if foreknowledge is applied to these events. The vehicle is the real loss in a flood, isn't it. So the idea isto have an assemblable barge that a vehicle could drive up on to,that could be constructed from inflatable components on hours notice. Given climate change, flooding will be a normal part of life inuninsured poor areas. Some emergency products that allow peopleto live with flooding without catastrophe could be very much appreciated. The dutch floating housing is novel, but is there a way to onlyfloat the absolutely most painful losses (and lives of course),that living without insurance, on flood plains, is sill possiblein coming centuries.

I wonder if it is possible to create a plastic impregnated canvas bag with a type of zip-lock closure large enough to contain a vehicle so that in the case of an impending flood the family car could be driven in and sealed so that even if it is submerged it would be protected. It also could contain large household items and when not in use it could be rolled up and stored and take up less space than a barge.
