Everyone's probably been put on hold for a mind-numbingly long time sometime in their life right? Especially when calling some department in the government.

Wouldn't a little payback be nice?!! Or at least the ability to go and actually get something done while you wait an hour or two for the person to get back to your conversation!

If my hold feature is ever developed millions will cease to be slaves to the phone while on hold.

Here is how it works:Once you get put on hold you press a button(s)and place the other person on hold. If the other person gets back on the phone before you, once they pick up the phone a pre-recorded message tells them that they have been placed on hold and that the other person has just been notified that you are back on the line. The second person's phone would give a distinctive ring letting them know that the person they are waiting for is back on the phone and wah la! No wasting hours of your life waiting on hold.

You are right and wrong that there would be no time wasted. If my assistant put you on hold to allow time for me to get to the phone I would waste no time hanging up if there wasn't someone to talk to when I picked up. You would end up the loser in this exchange as it was you who called me for information, remember? And by the time you got back from your all important activities you would have to call me back and go through the process all over again.

You, are making a whole lotta unfounded assumtions here ain't ya! I never said it should be used casually like when simply being transfered to someone else. If you are that impatient than the other person should hang up on ya. Maybe the call is not that important so you would mind if the person you put on hold hangs up on you.

Secondly, who ever said anything about me calling you to GET information?!!(Hypothetically speaking of course). What if I called you to give you info.(such as a great investment tip, etc.). This feature like so many that phone companies offer would not be for everyone and not a good idea in every situation. As society grows used to the concept it will grow more accepting of it like anything else, eh?!! There are more situations that can arise than anyone can think and if the feature is a dud than so be it. I guess it would mostly be used by the person who mostly has the least to worry about if either party hangs up.

If you are calling to give me information or sell me something you better rethink putting me on hold. You called me. If it's not important enough for you to wait it's not important to me either. My assistant will ask you if you mind being put on hold. If you don't want to wait you have the option of calling back when you have more time. When I answer a phone now and no one is there I hang up. Computer dialing systems generate dead ringers frequently now. I don't have time to wait for the person calling me to pick up and mispronounce my name.
