Pay Trash Removal By The Pound | |||||||||||||||||
Instead of paying for trash removal by timeframe (ie. 3 months at a time), it seems it would make more sense to charge by the pound. Perhaps this could be modified further to charge for the types of items being discarded. If people had to think this way, I'm sure recycling would be greatly increased.

It really depends where you are how you pay for household trash removal.
Some could be paying by weight, although it would take some work to account for that per household.
One solution I like is to have "bag tags" which are purchased by the homeowner, and the bags having a maximum weight. If they are overweight (by judgment or measurement by the collector), they are left, where the homeowner corrects the overweight situation or applies a second or an overweight tag.
Cities and businesses already do this, as do rural customers with private trash pickup also pay by weight. Some cities are already passing this on to homeowners.
