I realize that restaurants have some courses on their menus that are for people who are watching calories, but how about a restaurant that has all the courses on its menu dedicated to diet foods? Perhaps the menu could be divided into sections where various kinds of diets are represented (Atkins, South Beach, etc. or low sugar, low carb, etc.)

I'd have to guess that one of the reasons would be that people on diets don't go to restaurants unless they are going with someone who is not on a diet. I do have a long experience with this. My wife only wants to go out to eat if she feels like taking a break from her diet.

I love this idea and in fact, thought about this myself years ago while on one of my many diets! It seems that there will always be lots of diet plans and lots of dieters who subscribe to one or more of them at any given time. Offering menus/appropriate dishes for the most popular plans is key (e.g., low-carb, high-carb, low-fat, salt-free, etc), so that even non-dieters will have enough options to compose a tasty meal. Go for it - I'll be your first customer!!!

I've always been thin, so I have never dieted. However, I think this could be a very successful business idea, if properly advertised. Millions of people buy diet foods at the store. I'm sure that millions of lazy people would flock to diet restaurants.

I think this is a great idea, but it would need to be sold as concept to a giant company with thousands of dollars behind it, or open one store, and sell the idea to or Company name to a large corporation who could take it public. This is one idea that could make someone a great deal of money, as again, I belive that a large Corporation would want to take this public, as the interest of the public is where the money is at. Let me know if you would like some help getting this idea off the ground, as I think this is a million dollar idea.

As a diabetic, I am surprised this idea has not caught on. Locally (St. Louis metro area) there are few vegetarian and new-agey restaurants. Wish there were more.
