You know what I'm talking about, when you shop for razors you have two choices: a bag of disposable 'one-time' soon-to-be-in-the-landfill razors, or the 'holy cow, a 20 is not going to cover this purchase' pack of Gilette razors. Come on, it's two or three tiny strips of metal and a piece of plastic. If they were priced a quarter a pop I'd have no problem, but the price they charge you'd think they were shipped in from Neptune or something.

Please, a generic blade -- it doesn't even have to fit the high priced razor handles -- just something low cost.

(maybe this is more of a rant, but I don't see why the low-priced change-able blade razor hasn't happened)

(I know you can do those old fashioned ones with the huge replacable blades but those frighten me -- and I'm not sure if they're also expensive)

Trader Joes, if you're listening... offer these and the stubbly will beat a path to your door.

I was in Walgreen recently and thought I saw a house brand triple blade razor. Does that count?

Be still my stubbly heart, perhaps these have already come to fruition. I'll have to visit a Walgreens and check it out.

It is really a rant. The entire business model of the Razor companies is to make money on the consumables. The same goes for the printer ink and some communication services business models (where they underprice the hardware, for profits in the ongoing consumables or servcies), although there are generics for most printers, and most communications providers let you choose more flexibility in your package when your contract is up.

Yes to classicsat's point, razor blades are a loss leader...give away the razor sell the blades. But, generic printer cartridges are all over the place, as well as printer refills. So why no generic razor blades? I'm guessing a big part is distribution. So in order to get economies of scale you need to sell in wal-mart, target, etc..but I'm guessing razor maker, Proctor and Gamble has a deal that they can't sell generic versions, and Proctor & Gamble is so huge a partner with them, they abide by it. Also, I'm thinking that the fact that it is a blade that you cut hair of your neck and face with has something to do with it from a legality standpoint. With all that said, I agree, give us generic razor blades.
