For the times when you have misplaced your phone somewhere in the house or store, or it might be walking away. Why not have a really loud ring tone that you can trigger by calling a special number, or by sending it a special code. The loud siren like noise will either help you locate it, or cause the thief to discard it. :D

How do you call the special number if you don't have your phone?
At least here in Finland and probably in a good many American households several members have their own cell phones, any of which could contact the lost phone.
It would be nice if you could use your bluetooth headset/computer to send your phone a beep.
