iPod password | |||||||||||||||||
Apparently iPods are a big target for thieves: ubiquitous, expensive, and easy to sell. Why not require a password to turn on the iPod? Four letters would suffice: that's 456,976 combinations, good enough for ATMs. With the scroll wheel, it would only take a few seconds. Before the password is successfully entered, the iPod screen would say "Please return to <name> at <phone number>". The owner could elect to skip the password requirement, or turn it on selectively with a few steps through the menu. The owner could customize the "Please return... " message. "$25 reward!" This would both reduce the likelyhood of theft, and increase the chances of a merely-lost iPod finding its way back to its owner.

They do have a lock feature, however it can be defeated by connecting the iPod to a computer and deleting/editing a file, not to mention the thief would likely not use the iPod themselves, but hock it. And it does have certain resale value as parts.
Great idea, Ipod has a lot of other security features that protect them from getting ripped off. I would bet they could do it and do it in a way that would work. They only way to bypass the security code would be from the website which has all your peronal info to verify who you are.
Make it so that the rewards are tracked through IPOD and they could track people who seem to find a lot of them.
Nice idea
