miniature automatic lawn mower | |||||||||||||||||
A tiny lawn mower which quietly mows the lawn automatically at night . It should be programmable so that it can be thought the boundaries of the lawn. The reason it has to be small is so that it is not noisy, and can be made kid and pet safe. Making it small also makes it Fuel efficient and cheap. It should also have the ability to collect the cut grass and deposit it a desginated place. Even though it may be slow.. it should be able to cover most lawns overnight.

Probably a bad idea to have anything with sharp blades prowling about unattended on the premises at night. Plenty of people are injured each year by lawn mowers that require human operators despite the manufacturer's attempts to make them as safe as possible.
something like this is almost on the market already
It has been done by several companies. http://www.friendlyrobotics.com/ http://www.lawnbott.com/ to name a few and I do believe i saw a lawn mower project in an issue of popular electronics back in the 1980s.
A similar beast was on the market a while back, battery powered and using monofilament instead of steel blades. Remote control, I believe. As I recall, there was a problem with the batteries igniting themselves.
leaving it unattended at night would make a prime target for theifs, perhaps include a proximity alarm to warn people its working and hopfuly deter theifs
