Someone should set up a non profit electricity company that would only make electricity using sustainable energy sources.Since a non profit organisation doesn't focus on making a profit it's easier for the organisation to "do the right thing" and re-invest all it's profits.

Who is this "someone" who will donate money with no hope of a return?

sand, Oct 26 2007

Electric Cooperatives, by definition, are non-profit. The reality is that electric production, even with renewable resources, is very expensive. A cooperative using renewable energy typically generates at a loss for quite some time before making a return on their investment.

One can put up a few wind generators or perhaps solar units at their own home, spending perhaps $50,000 and then use their own power generated. That means they would have to finance the initial investment themselves. That opportunity is open to you today.
