Ultra hip iTunes | |||||||||||||||||
I'm old enough to remember the days when music elitists bought their music from ultra hip record stores such as Reckless Records or Wax Trax here in Chicago. I'd like to see a digital music service such as iTunes that only sells ultra hip music. The service should sell DRM free, high bit rate encoded music with cover art and packaging. The idea for this came from reading this comment from Trent Reznor: 'At the end of the day, what made OiNK a great place was that it was like the world's greatest record store. Pretty much anything you could ever imagine, it was there, and it was there in the format you wanted. If OiNK cost anything, I would certainly have paid, but there isn't the equivalent of that in the retail space right now. iTunes kind of feels like Sam Goody to me. I don't feel cool when I go there. I'm tired of seeing John Mayer's face pop up. I feel like I'm being hustled when I visit there...' Since iTunes is locked this service should be either web based or tied to an open source music service - maybe Songbird or something like that - or both

How about emusic.com
I was thinking of something a lot more underground and elitist, possibly by invite only.
