BATTERY BAYS | |||||||||||||||||
It is the age of electric cars and bikes. Every Electric car travells about 60km to 100 kms on a single charge. Why not position battery bays at intervals of 5-10 kms in the city.The batteries in the car should be ergonomically placed so that it could be taken on replaced in less than a minute. The carsgoes to the battery bay, the discharging battery is replaced immediately with a charged one. Imagine a trip form New York to CA in a electric car. If youhave battery bays every 100 kilometers, it would be possible.50 - 60 battery bays should make a 5000 kms journey possible and feasible.

It may very well come to that.
Thee is no other absolute non-polluting alternative to a Electric Car.Hybrid Cars do pollute, only to a lesser extent. I envisage a day whenfossil fuels are done with, we will have only Battery Bays and no Gas stations.
A system would have to be worked out as who is responsible for the batteries and liable for them, although the welding gas model may work ( where a user "owns" one, and exchanges the empty one for a full one, for the cost of contents and a handling fee)
Second would be logistics of such a station, although I suppose, given time, one could be semi or fully automated, or operated by minimally skilled personnel.
They do something simular in warehouses and other industries when they have to change the batteries on electric forklifts. It is very feasable to do this. Checking the charge, figuring the price of recharging a battery and checking on the life of the battery would be easy enough with wattage meters. Pulling the batteries from cars could be done from the front or the rear and would only require a drop down gate that could be locked. Start up might be a bit pricey, but someone probably could make a fortune on this idea.
ALL BATTERY/HYBRID CAR MANUFACTURERS SHOULD COME UNDER ONE ROOF STANDARDISETHE BATTERIES USED AND THE MECHANISM TO LIFT OFF AND INSERT A CHARGED ONESHOULD BE STANDARDISED. IT SHOULD NOT TAKE MORE THAN A MINUTE TO INSTALL/REMOVEA FULLY CHARGED BATTERY WITH A DISCHARGED ONE.
