Cold/Wet Door | |||||||||||||||||
I live in a cold midwestern city where I am constantly coming in and out of my car. I constantly have a jacket dilemma, which is, "do I take it off and throw it in the back seat or do I wear it?" The pro of wearing it is that you can quickly get out of your car and not fuss with putting on your jacket when you reach your destination. The con - difficult to move while seated. I propose a drivers side door that has built in umbrella type aparatus and a slot to store your jacket.

I'm having trouble imagining a side door compartment large enough to store my thick cold-weather coat. Most cars already have storage slots in the side doors of the front two seats, and while they're not spacious enough for outerwear, there isn't much room for them to "expand" into. Would the umbrella apparatus be attached to the door or to the main body of the car?
It would be attached to the main part of the car and open out over the door as it opens. It would have to be height adjustable to accomodate different peoples various heights.
Regarding the jacket slot in the door, you are probably right; it would not fit into the door. But I still feel the umbrella appartus has real value.
i suggest you spend a little time and money shopping for a jacket the better fits you needs as opposed to adding a rather fragile piece of equipment to your car. although it be much more entertaing to see you forget to close the umbrella and drive off than when you leave your coffee on the roof.
Thanks for your feedback bel970, it was very insightful.
