A car alarm woke me up this morning and got me thinking.Why not have cities require car alarm owners to register at least one telephone number when a car alarm is installed. The city would keep a private database linking the phone number and the licenseplate number. Citizens who hear a car alarm could call or login and give the license plate number and location of car, the system would automatically call the owner's telephone number and a tow truck company. The owner would be told that alarm is going off. Tow truck would be told that they could tow the car if alarm was still ringing in 5 minutes.

Great! What about a digital camera that would take a picture of the potential theif ( or triggereing event) instead of the alarm?
Why not install a sim card/phone capabilities within the car.If there is some problem, it will send you a txt with the issue.
This is a great idea to start discussion, as what happened with mrsarcasm' s idea to have some sort of notification sent from the car to the owner either via cell phone or key that hey your alarm is going off! Range of such a device could be 15- 20 miles.J
GoodIdea! When my car was robbed a little while ago, I had sort of the same idea as KF: put in a camera in your car. Just two webcams, and send the movies to a central storage point, and were the images are publisged (transced) to the internet community. The central storage records for 24 hours. Advantage: far better security, and citizen control. Think of somebody who tried to raped a girl next to your car? In this way our society gets additional eyes and ears. Potental disadvantage: privacy concept. But we think that we have nothing to hide, as long as there are no public cameras in our homes... Imagine that form now on erveybody around the world 'tags' there message with 'carwebtransce', than you just have to google on this gulabel and you see directly were what is going on by whom about the same concept.
