CFL's are a good thing, but the bulbs take a while to reach full brightness, which is a pain if you want to flip a light on briefly, or any time you want immediate illumination. Why not create a hybrid lighting fixture to be used wherever this is an issue, with an incandescent bulb plus a CFL; the incandescent bulb turns off the moment the CFL reaches full brightness, Minimal energy ding, but much greater convenience, and possibly some safety benefits.

I'm just irritated that I've yet to see a CFL that's not made in China.
All of the incandescents we buy were made in USA.
Bulb manufacturing never provided many jobs in the US. For many years GE had one machine running 24 hours, and it made all the bulbs the market could handle.
