An electric car that recharges with a wind turbine when parked is an idea I like. A car could 'deploy' an expandable vertical-shaft wind turbine, about a meter in diameter and one-to-two meters tall at the max. (think anemometer)that rises out of the trunk when in a parking lot could be an excellent way to charge the batteries where I live.

The car could vary the height of the vertical shaft turbine based on the available wind and charge status. Vertical shaft turbines are not as dangerous to birds or people as propellers are, they work independent of wind direction and because of their shape, they can be collapsible.

You'd have to drop the turbine when driving (at least at higher speeds) because of course, the turbine drag would require more energy than its output.
