Above ground pools skim debris at the water's surface as the water circulates. The debris is steadily moved toward the outer edge of the water, against the wall, until it is finally sucked into the skimmer intake.I suggest extending a paddle-like arm into the pool, adjacent to the skimmer. The arm is an unspecified length, perhaps 24 inches long. The arm would intersect the surface of the water on an angle to the pool's wall. The arm would divert an additional volume of water toward the skimmer and increase the amount of debris collected by the skimmer and make the cleaning process more effective. This may seem like a trite concept, but I believe it can be appreciated by anyone who owns a pool and has to clean it!

Its a good idea. However, when I read your idea I was fairly certain I had seen such a device for sale in pool suppply catalogs. Here is an example. Its called a "skim-it" and it can be found in the IN THE SWIM on-line catalog. Look under Home > PoolAccessories> Cleaning Tools ...

PS. They made it 28 inches long instead of 24.
