Currency for the Homeless | |||||||||||||||||
Introduce a system of 'survival' tokens in varying denominations which the public can purchase from high street stores, then give instead of cash to the homeless. The tokens would be exchangable for food, clothing and non-alcoholic drinks.

Right...!?! What planet are you from?
All that will happen is the person you give them to will sell them at a discount to someone else for cold cash to buy beer, the whole time saying, "God bless..."
If you don't want them to buy booze give them a sandwich. Ain't anyone I know that will buy a sandwich from a homeless guy.
it's a tuffy. how will the 'sandwich' scheme work? can the numbers stack up? maybe mcdonald's can be part of a scheme - but who wants bums hanging around.
the only answer is support and education schemes. you can't stop people who just won't help themselves. unless it's in a confined and controllable environment, like the aborigines in outback australia and the intervention programmes in place there.
If a guy on the street wants a beer or a shot of whiskey to cheer himself up it's none of my business to tell him to chew on carrot instead. I give people money and let them run their own lives. When they realize that certain behaviors should change it has to come from somewhere inside, not some Puritan blue-nose SOB dictating their lives.
We have that now, it's called the US Dollar.
Some homeless literaly sell their own blood for a bottle of T-bird or a fix of the latest chem soup.
