Regulations should be placed on all candidates runing for political office, where they are allowed to run only a limited number of ads on television and other media outlets. And they should be funded by taxpayers or any other way possible. This should be extended to all serious candidates. This would provide a great advantage to democracy. First, it would reduce special interest involvement in politics. Second, it would give a chance to every candidate despite their ability to fund raise. Third, it enable all candidates to run on their merits and policies. Finally, it will reduce attack ads since each candidate has only limited ads to run.Initial burden in placed on taxpayers, but results are worth every penny.

The problem is that we believe in free speech and it is unconstitutional to disallow advertising as it is a form of political speech. it would take an amendment and that takes political support and politicians love the current system.
What if there were a TV network that was subsidized by the government and they were required to give large amounts of free time to the candidates. It would give everyone a fair chance to be heard in more than 30 second ads. We could call it the Political Broadcasting Service, or PBS for short.
The problem may be better served by holding the voter accountable for the political mess. After all, without the voter - the politician would NOT be voted in.The voters have forgotten that the Lobbyists are the funding for the politicians to advertise to the voter base - BUT the voter gives the politician the job.It was just on Fox this morning where they were saying MORE PEOPLE KNOW about "The Simpson's" than people who know the political process...
With that level of knowledgeable voting base - is it an wonder that our politics has become such a humorous farce?
