I'm pretty sure the swipe-location is already recorded.
GPS requires an outdoor antenna, something not so easy for a cash-register.
ATTACHING A EXTERNAL ANTENNA TO A CREDIT CARD MACHINE IS NOT A DIFFICULT TASK.
THE CREDIT CARD MACHINE RECORDS THE PLACE OF THE TRANSACTION - IF A CARD IS STOLEN YOU WILL IMMEDIATELY KNOW THE PLACE WHERE THE CARD HASBEEN MISUSED THROUGH THE SMS.
What are the benefits of this system to the customer and the merchant?
THE BENEFITS ARE MANY - YOU KNOW WHERE UR CARD HAS BEEN USED UGET A IMMEDIATE SUMMARY OF THE TRANSACTION THROUGH A SMS - IF YOUCARD HAS BEEN STOLEN U KNOW WHERE UR CARD IS BEING MISSUED- IT COULDBE ALSO BE A GREAT HELP TO THE POLICE IN TRACKING DOWN UR STOLEN CARD
Modern card-swipe transaction systems can do that today, at least log purchases and give each customer a paper transaction receipt. The only advance would be an SMS receipt vs a paper one, however an SMS receipt may not have the certain legal standing a paper one may, if need be.
A GPS in the transaction terminal is not really needed, as there are already outside means to determine its location.
