It is common practice to bleed air from a radiator. By reversing this proceedure and adapting a connection to a foot pump to fit the bleed valve air can be pumped into a radiator.
Shut one radiator valve, operate the pump, water will discharge from the radiator back into the system. As the last of the water leaves the radiator there is a distinct sound change. At this point shut the other valve, now the radiator can be removed without the usual problem of draining the house system or the likelyhood of mess trying to drain a single radiator.
