We have a major obesity problem in this country and in fact around the world. We have cell phone companies like sprint etc.
What works best in weight loss is reward and acknowledgement as motivators, particularly money or something that stands for money like extra minutes, Sprint has minutes, they cost sprint nothing, but they are highly valued by customers. So what I suggest is a marketing program built around "We have the minutes, you have the pounds, let's make a deal."Essentially a weight loss company or a doctors proof would be required as to starting weight and lost weight. I am pretty sure that a merger between a weight loss company and a cell phone company could be achieved.Cell phone company has a marketing program that attracts new customers, overweight people are rewarded with added minutes for pounds lost, money in the bank for them. It's a great public service for the cell phone company, lots of good PR. Win Win all the way around. In addition all sorts of offers instead of minutes could be offered or along with minutes. Would some people try to game the system? Sure but who cares, minutes given cost so very little.

So the money saved by eating less would be given to the cell phone company. Motivation ?
I like it. I think your idea would work best by linking buddies into it. Buddies are other cell phone users who are losing pounds too. As buddies you are required to call someone in the network and cheer them on in the weight loss program. You said it yourself. They need support. That's where the communication companies come in. They sell memberships to the buddies losing weight phone network.
Caller says "I just lost 10 more pounds!"... and there is someone on the the other line who says great! I lost one, how did you do it? They then talk for three hours on the phone companies line making them lots of money.
