I working on a program that uses Bluetooth technology to link various devices within the home to a handheld phone/PDA. The program uses voice command software available on almost every smartphone to control devices with the home. It is essentially a universal remote control for your life. Instead of having to physically activate your DVD, TV, and surroud sound to watch a movie you could simply press a button on your smartphone and say the command turn on all three.
